Our Testimony of Christ With Us

“Unto us a Child is born, Unto us a Child is given: And the government will be upon His shoulder. And His name will be called Wonderful, Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.” (Isaiah 9:6; NKJV)

“Can you picture yourself in the first Christmas story? Maybe one character captures your attention most. Reviewing it we see:

  • Mary heard the angel Gabriel, believed and submitted to God’s call on her life.
  • Elizabeth recognized Jesus even in Mary’s womb, was filled with the Holy Spirit, and was a probable mentor to Mary who lived in her home for the three months before Jesus was born.
  • Joseph dreamed and, being warned by an angel, obeyed.
  • An innkeeper had no room for the expectant couple, but he offered what he had– a stable with a manger.
  • Shepherds heard the Lord’s angel speak of the good tidings of great joy. They left their work to go find this child, and afterwards went to tell others who marveled in amazement, as well.
  • Anna, a praying elderly widow, saw a promise fulfilled, praised God, and proclaimed the Messiah’s birth.
  • Simeon, waited expectantly to see the Lord’s Christ. Finally, when he saw him in the temple with his parents, he blessed the baby and prophesied about his future.
  • Wisemen, followed a star, worshiped the Savior, and gave him extravagant gifts.

People in the Christmas drama give us glorious examples. God can speak through a dream, an angel, a wiseman, a praying widow, a devoted-husband-to-be, a prophet, or even an ordinary person watching the flock at home or office, going about business as usual. For nothing is impossible with God.  He can visit us in unexpected ways on unexpected days. Are we listening? Will we obey? Are we willing to go tell others what he has done for us? For them? Are we willing to tell of his great love?” (Quin Sherrer)1

Give Him 15 minutes in prayer:

  • Read the Christmas story in the book of Luke, Chapter 2. (Read it with your family, if possible.)
  • Consider the characters in the Christmas story. Is there one you relate to? Talk with Jesus about this. Understand why.
  • Intercede for your family members, asking the Lord to visit each one in a very tangible way this Christmas. Especially pray for those not yet saved in your family line.
  • Answer these questions: “Am I positioning myself to listen to the Lord? Will I obey? Am I willing to go tell others what he has done for me? For them? Am I willing to tell of his great love?”

A prayer you can pray:

Father, speak to me by Your Holy Spirit, as I read about the birth of Jesus in Luke, Chapter 2. Show me how You revealed Jesus to each one and speak to my heart about how You speak to me about Him. Formulate my Christmas testimony, in part, by how I relate to that character. Help me to share You with others as I meet with them this Christmas. Whether or not I see them, I intercede for each of my family members. I so want each one of them to know You, Jesus. I know You brought each into my life, so I make make You known to them in some way. Am I positioning myself to listen to You? Will I obey? Show me how to tell others what You have done for me. Help me to show others what I see You doing to reveal Your Son to them. Am I willing to tell of Your great love or am I still hesitant? Make me bold, in Jesus’ name. Amen.

Today’s decree:

I will tell my testimony to the world. Nothing is impossible with God!
