Engaging the Culture
“The Church is entering a season where we will produce elite warriors, statesmen, and heroes. They will be mighty men and women. We have forward momentum and we are going to feed it. We are going to give more resources to leadership preparation than just Sunday morning offerings given to cover the bills. We are going to have to plan. Five-fold ministry has largely been replaced by event planning. I really don’t think large crusades are wrong. However, I think we do need American Idol wanna-be’s and Dr. Phil’s. There have to be some Christians out there like that—created for cultural influence—given a voice in the culture. It’s time for Believers in this nation to stop hiding under the balcony in the second service and get where they belong in the Ekklesia. And, some of us have to help them get there.” (Don Lynch)1
“I have given them your word. And the world hates them because they do not belong to the world, just as I do not belong to the world. I’m not asking you to take them out of the world, but to keep them safe from the evil one. They do not belong to this world any more than I do.” (John 17:14-16; NLT)
Give Him 15 minutes in prayer:
- Can you imagine Christians, acting as the Ekklesia—the governmental authority of God— in every corner of the culture? Oh, we mostly work in the world now, but we largely hide our faith. We get to repent for our hiddenness.
- Call forth the bold who will engage the culture! Call forth the creatives, the talented, and the most brilliant minds in Christianity, whom God has called into positions of cultural influence!
- Call forth the five-fold equippers who are willing to pay the cost to disciple the culture-impactors.
- Pray that our church-growth models will be replaced with societal harvest models.
A prayer you can pray:
Father, I want to sit here and dream with You for a bit. I have been feeling this new boldness coming on the Church. Whether we are the five-fold equippers or the influencers, the Ekklesia is about to open its mouth and roar! We will be heard and seen. No more hiding out inside our church buildings. We will work together to prepare this generation for government, media, arts and entertainment, and other places where the molders of society are. We choose not to relegate those realms of influence to the devil and those he uses. We won’t just pray, we will act. We will speak. We will write. We will change everything around us, as God leads us forth into a new type of spiritual warfare. So, come on equippers, get ready. You have to be ahead of those coming up behind you or they will pass you by. My eyes can see the harvest fields, so white. Come, Lord, Jesus. Amen.
Today’s decree:
Here come the Believers who are “culture-impactors”!
