God’s Dream for America

God’s plan with Abraham was not just to bless a man. His plan wasn’t about just giving him a family and land. All that was about something bigger. It was about God establishing the way He would redeem the dream. God said something like this to Abraham in Genesis 12, “I put a dreaming nature in my people, so if I want to get this guy to work with me, I have to give him a dream, because I made him to dream. If I stifle that, I will frustrate him and this won’t work. I am going to appeal to the nature I have put in him—to dream—and then I’m going to tuck My dream in his dream.”

In Genesis 12:1-3, God planted His dream in Abram (whom He later called Abraham). Let me paraphrase what God said here: “I’m going to give you a dream, Abram, but in the fulfillment of that dream I’m going to get The Redeemer into the earth. All the earth is going to be blessed and I’m going to get My dream back through your dream.”

Let’s talk about America. It’s not about a nation. It’s never been about just a nation. It’s about The Dream. God never said, “You know, I think I’m going to make Myself the most powerful nation on earth,” or, “I’m going to make this nation the richest.” It was all about the dream to raise up a nation that would be the leading Voice of the Gospel in the earth. Israel gave Him the Messiah that redeemed, and America is the number one nation to trumpet the message.

“Now the Lord said to Abram, ‘Go out from your country, your relatives, and your father’s household to the land that I will show you. Then I will make you into a great nation, and I will bless you, and I will make your name great, so that you will exemplify divine blessing. I will bless those who bless you, but the one who treats you lightly I must curse, and all the families of the earth will bless one another by your name.’” (Genesis 12:1-3; NET)

Give Him 15 minutes in prayer:

  • Thank God that He never gives up on an individual or a nation. When He has a dream, He always redeems and transforms, just like He did Abram to Abraham and Jacob to Israel.
  • Thank God that He transforms, and heals, and mends, and forgives, and cleanses, so He can call us His friends.
  • Thank God that He removes every giant in our lives and every giant in our land, so He can see His dreams come to pass.
  • Ask Him to do the same for you.
  • Ask Him to do the same for America.
  • Say, “It’s not just about those of us as individuals, or about those of us living today. This is about Your eternal purposes.”

A prayer you can pray:

Lord, we thank You for Your mercy. You keep covenant and mercy. You know our weaknesses when You call us, whether it’s a person or a nation. You are so confident in Your ability to transform, and heal, and mend, and forgive, and cleanse. You call us friends when we are still struggling. You say, “No, no, no. I know who you are. I have a dream for you. You are going to so walk with Me that I’m going to be able to use you to change the world. We thank You that You have a dream so strong that it can take out every giant in the way of that dream. We must only partner with You and take hold of past covenants. We must take hold of what You were doing way back when and say, “It’s not just about those of us as individuals, or about those of us living today. This is about Your eternal purposes.” We are asking You to heal America. Send a Third Great Awakening, not because we deserve it, but because You love to redeem. You love to restore Your dream. You have a plan for this nation with all of our flaws. You still have a plan. You still need us to be that light to the nations. We thank You that You are not finished with America. We get to be a part of this great harvest! We give You praise in Jesus’ Name. Amen.

Today’s decree:

God’s dream for America was that we would be the Voice of the Gospel in the earth and that will be who we are!
