Give Him 15 is joining a 40-day national call to prayer before the 2018 Midterm Elections. Here is today’s Focus:

PRAY IN UNITY

Day 32 – Refreshing Our Focus

Let us keep our eyes fixed on Jesus, on whom our faith depends from beginning to end. He did not give up because of the cross! On the contrary, because of the joy that was waiting for him, he thought nothing of the disgrace of dying on the cross, and he is now seated at the right side of God’s throne.”  (Hebrews 12:2; GNT)

In any given day, there can be moments when all the constant noise in the battle for good and evil can seem overwhelming. In the desire to be informed even for prayer and intercession, I sometimes find my focus doesn’t engage properly. I allow my attention to begin on the problem rather than the Lord Himself, the Problem Solver. I picture myself backing up and starting anew where there is great peace and power as I remember to “enter His gates with thanksgiving and His courts with praise” (Psalm 100:4). This refocused entry of praise and thankfulness before the great I Am, prevents despair, as I later pray the petitions and deep needs. The Lord is never surprised by the happenings in our days. For focus, I like to spend time with passages of Isaiah in the chapters of the 40s – there are so many references to the supremacy of the Lord. One example is Isaiah 45:6b, “I am the Lord, and there is no other.”

Points for prayer:

Enter the Lord’s presence with thanksgiving!

Linger in praise to the Lord.

Meditate on who the Lord really is.
