Remembering the Fallen
In 2015, a 10 year-old boy from Redding, CA, named Preston Sharp discovered that our nation’s veterans are being forgotten as time goes on. During a burial ceremony for his own grandfather who was a Navy Veteran, he became distraught about this. His mom said, “You can’t complain about something unless you try to do something about it.” Preston replied with, “I’m going to do something about it, mom!” This young man has now organized the placing of flags and/or flowers on over 50,000 veterans’ graves, reminding us all that those who fought to defend our freedom are not forgotten! Even President Trump has noticed this young man’s efforts and he honored him in his first State of the Union Address in January 2018. You can see it here. Preston’s new goal is to honor veterans in all 50 states and to challenge others to get involved wherever they are through The Flag and Flower Challenge. Check it out!
“There is no greater love than to lay down one’s life for one’s friends.” (John 15:13; NLT)
Give Him 15 minutes in prayer:
- Thank the Lord for Preston Sharp and others who are making sure the men and women who fought for America’s freedom are never forgotten.
- Thank the Lord for President Trump, who always honors those serving in the U.S. armed forces.
- Intercede for the families of those who have lost loved ones serving in the U.S. military this past year, especially those whose loved one died on active duty.
- Pray for God’s strategies to be presented to those in government offices that are caring for our veterans. Intercede for better care and services for those who have served us so well.
A prayer you can pray:
Thank you, Lord, for people like Preston Sharp who have remembered those who have given their lives for this country’s freedom. We honor them today along with our fallen troops. Raise up many more like Preston. Help his movement gain ground as our military are so worth this honor. Thank you for giving us a leader like President Trump who models honor of our U.S. military. We intercede today for the families of those who have died in service to our country this year. Comfort them in their loss. Draw them to Yourself. Let them know their loved one’s sacrifice will not be forgotten. We will remember! Grace our government officials working with our veterans to provide the nation’s best care for them as long as they live. In Jesus’ name, amen.
Today’s decree:
We will never forget the cost paid by our veterans to keep America free!
