Are You Praying for the President?

We need to pray for whoever is in office. We need to pray for their success, regardless of what we feel about them. When President Clinton was in office and he was exposed for some of the sexual misconduct that was found, I took a lot of heat for a comment I made about him. At one conference, I said that I felt that God might be more upset with the Church for not praying for leaders and those in office, than He is with this man and his sin. You would have thought I had just cursed! I went on to say that if the Church doesn’t pray, then God can’t do some things. Scripture is filled with examples of God moving on the heart of even pagan kings that openly worshipped idols. They were not Jewish. They had no atonement, yet He used them. So, no matter what people think of President Trump, they need to be praying for him.

“From King Cyrus of Persia: The Lord, the God of heaven, gave all the kingdoms on earth to me. And he chose me to build a temple for him at Jerusalem in the country of Judah. If any of God’s people are living among you, I pray God will bless them. You must let them go to Jerusalem in the country of Judah. You must let them go build the Temple of the Lord, the God of Israel, the God who is in Jerusalem.” (Ezra 1:2-3; ERV)

Give Him 15 minutes in prayer:

  • God can use anyone for His purposes. He raises up and brings down. Worship Him for His wisdom and mercy.
  • Repent if you pray “politically”. Is your political favorite in office? Will you only pray for those in the political party you support? You know who you are!
  • Pray for President Trump and Vice-President Pence, regardless of whether you voted for them or not. Pray for protection over them and their families.
  • Pray that they would continue to make righteous decisions.
  • Specifically pray for someone in office that you do not agree with politically. Remember that they are someone God loves. Ask Holy Spirit how to pray for them.

A prayer you can pray:

Father, I worship You in Your wisdom, majesty, and mercy! We can trust You to set the rudder on the political ship of this nation. You can guide the hearts of elected officials for Your purposes. Forgive me for refusing to pray for those I have not politically agreed with. Wow! That’s not what Your Word says I’m to do. I humble myself and pray for President Trump and Vice-President Pence.  Protect them and their families from all harm. Speak to them Your righteous decisions and give them the grace to lead America in this tumultuous time. (Specifically pray for someone in office that you do not agree with politically. Ask Holy Spirit to help you.) Jesus, You love them and You died on the cross for them, and I would love to see them spend forever with You. Amen.

Today’s decree:

I decree that political prayers will stop and the Church will pray according to the Word and the heart of God for America.
