Finding God’s Purpose
Do you ever feel like there is something in you that you are wanting to risk and move into another field? Maybe you are currently doing something with your life that just doesn’t feel like it’s a good fit for who you are. Maybe you’re not happy doing what you’re doing and there’s something in you that wants to be able to take a little risk. Don’t be reckless and mess up your family or lose everything moving forward without a plan. However, I think there’s something God made you for that you will enjoy. I would find out what that something is and find a way with the Lord to do it. In fact, I would rather make half the money I’m making and enjoy what I’m doing with my life, than get to the end of my life and say, “I didn’t like what I spent my life doing.”
I think God has something for you to do that you will like. He made you with gifts and strengths and talents that He intends to help you use. But, you’ll never get there if you are not willing to take at least a small risk.
Sometimes, after God heals an area of our lives, there comes a time we need to test it. We have been talking for a number of days about God healing our fears and the effects they have on us, as well as on the generations that may follow us. You may experience a solid unwillingness to change; a digging your heels in at any thought of change. You may even experience emotional torment, because you hate where you are so much, but can’t bring yourself to get past the fear to make the change. Or, you may become a professional worrier. You need to let God heal all of that, so you can hear Him, and His heart of love for you, then work with Him to move your life onto His path.
This could be as significant as a career change, but don’t assume that. It could be a strengthening of relationships in your life, such as your marriage. A strong marriage is a good foundation for working together to get your family where God wants you to be. A supportive spouse can help you find God’s path for your life, because it will affect them, also. It could be that God wants you to do something at a volunteer level, or that He wants you to take some classes or get other training. Maybe it’s a hobby He will have you lean into, like painting or photography, that will ultimately bring great joy to you and touch others’ lives. Whatever it is, don’t stay stuck, go get to work on it!
“For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord, plans for welfare and not for evil, to give you a future and a hope.” (Jeremiah 29:11; ESV)
Give Him 15 minutes in prayer:
- Read Psalm 139.
- Thank the Lord that you are fearfully and wonderfully made. Declare, “My soul knows it well.”
- Pray through other items in that Psalm.
- Ask the Lord to show you the path He has formed for you to walk on. Ask Him how to get there. What do you need to let go of and what do you need to add to your life?
- If you are married, seek the Lord together with your spouse. See where His plans for you intersect. You are meant to help each other move forward, but fear in either one of you will make it hard. Work on finding that place of agreement.
- Declare, “For You know the plans You have for me, Lord, plans for welfare and not for evil, to give me a future and a hope.”
A prayer you can pray:
God, what a beautiful passage of scripture is Psalm 139. It really shows us how intimately acquainted You are with all our ways. You formed us, You desired us, You have a plan for us. We are not here randomly or by accident. We were planned for such a time as this. We were created to live in this very generation. Without knowing Christ, our lives could be wasted. We might never find Your perfect plan for us. As it is, it seems Satan is trying his hardest to keep us from it. But, You are able to deliver us from his schemes and get us right where you want us.
Deliver us from all of our fears, Lord. From the smallest point of doubt, to the terror of major change, deal with us. Bring us together with our spouses. Make us one. Either of us may be struggling with a fear that will hold our family back. We have to find Your will together, Lord. We have to help each other overcome any fear together, so we can find our way forward together.
We extend this to the Body of Christ. The harvest may be waiting for our positioning. You know the plans You have for us, Lord, plans for welfare and not for evil, to give us a future and a hope. Move to line us up with those plans in Jesus’ name. Amen.
Today’s decree:
God knows His plan for us. We need to tuck in close and find it and walk in it!
