We Are Made in His Image

We are moving into a season where the Church can really, really, really be the Church. We are going to manifest who He is in ways we have not been able to. We’re in a perfect, holy storm; a fullness of time. We’re coming into a fullness of His anointing. We are going to reveal Him fully now. We can now fully accomplish our assignment on the earth. 

Let’s go back and take a look at the creation story in Genesis. For five days, God created everything we see on the earth. On the sixth day, He created, but the word used for “created” there is not the same word He has been using. He uses a word for forming or fashioning. He came to earth and put His hands in the dirt. Then, He formed and fashioned Adam. Each day on days one through five He ended the day by saying, “This is good.” But, on the sixth day, when He finished forming us, He said, “This is very good.”

When God finished, He leaned down and touched the man with His mouth in what must have looked to the angels like a kiss. He breathed His nature into Adam. Now, man was no longer a lump of clay, but he could move. God had put His Spirit into man. We became like Him. We were now “in His image and likeness.” The Bible uses the word “salem”. It means “illusion”. We were so much like Him that it was like an illusion. When the angels saw Adam walk by, they might have done a double-take, because he was made so like God. He was crowned with glory. Hebrew scholars believe he was clothed with light. That’s why he saw his nakedness when he fell. He wasn’t like the angels, because God wasn’t making servants or angels or animals. He was making family. He wanted them to populate the earth with others carrying His nature and His spirit. 

“Then God said, ‘Let us make humankind in our image, after our likeness, so they may rule over the fish of the sea and the birds of the air, over the cattle, and over all the earth, and over all the creatures that move on the earth.’ God created humankind in his own image, in the image of God he created them, male and female he created them. God blessed them and said to them, ‘Be fruitful and multiply! Fill the earth and subdue it! God saw all that he had made—and it was very good! There was evening, and there was morning, the sixth day.” (Genesis 1:26-28a, 31; NET)

Give Him 15 minutes in prayer:

• Stop and think about what the day must have been like when God created Adam and Eve. What was God feeling? How special to Him was this man and woman He created?
• Now, understand that He was thinking of you, too, when He created Adam and Eve. He had the same dream for you that He had for them.
• Think about the fact that He put His likeness in us to the point that the angels could mistake us for Him. Let your heart long for that. Tell Him you want to be like Him in every way possible.
• Consider what the Church can do in the earth in partnership with the Lord.

A prayer you can pray:

Father, today we are meditating on Your creation of mankind. We don’t stop and ponder this deeply enough or often enough. We know we have been born again by Your Spirit, but we are actually being restored to the position You originally wanted us in. You had a thought, “I will create ‘man’ in My image. I’ll make them male and female, so they compliment each other. I want them to think like Me. I want them to be eternal like Me. I want My Spirit and nature to be inside of them.” You wanted us to be so much like You that angels and demons and animals and every other created being would see how closely related we were. We were to be a reflection of You in the earth and we were to govern it as You would. While we cannot perfectly do that now, we are thankful that through the process of Your death and resurrection, Jesus, we can fulfill much of that. If we stay very close to You, we can act like You, think like You, speak like You, relate to others as You do. We can be filled with Your Holy Spirit. We can walk in Your authority. We can do the works that You do. We can speak the words that You speak. By Your grace, others can see You in us. They may not love us. They may reject us, even as they reject You, but we can hope and pray by faith that some will choose You. In the meantime, we can declare and decree Your purposes in the earth. We can open the heavens with our worship and intercession. We can believe and see the fruit of our faith. We can expand Your Kingdom in the earth. Here we are, Your sons and daughters. We are Your family. Make the lost hungry and thirsty for You through us in Jesus’ name. Amen.

In this fullness of time, we will understand who we are and we will reveal Him. His Kingdom is coming to America through us!
