Turning Cities of Death Into Cities of Life

When Caleb re-took Kiriath-Arba and renamed it Hebron, he was restoring the city to its destiny. Satan always comes to distort or pervert God’s purpose. So, this city of Hebron, pictures covenant—friendship with God. Satan came and said, “I’m going to make it a stronghold of division, of idolatry, of death, corruption, evil, control, and fear.” Caleb transformed that city back into covenantal friendship with God. 

I believe God so wants to transform Chicago that it becomes not just a business hub, but is restored as a spiritual hub. People from all over the world will once again go there to seek the Lord. There will be something there again that people can tap into. Death won’t rule Chicago. Life will rule Chicago. God will even redeem gangs and gang members. He will rule over the inner cities in America and bring revival to places of great darkness! He will even transform the governments of these cities. 

Cities like Chicago will become cities that people run to, instead of somewhere they want to run from. People will find refuge and protection. These cities of great darkness will begin to paint a picture of the Lord, Himself.  

“Are you weary, carrying a heavy burden? Then come to me. I will refresh your life, for I am your oasis. Simply join your life with mine. Learn my ways and you’ll discover that I’m gentle, humble, easy to please. You will find refreshment and rest in me. For all that I require of you will be pleasant and easy to bear.” (Matthew 11:28-30; TPT)

Give Him 15 minutes in prayer:

  • Can cities be so transformed by God through the prayers of the saints, that they completely turn around and become cities of refuge? Can they become cities people run to instead of from?
  • Can neighborhoods of death become strongholds of life and safety and salvation?
  • Call for Life to rule in Chicago. Call forth Life into other cities the Lord lays on your heart where death is the current stronghold.
  • Pray Matthew 11:28-30 over Chicago any darkness-infested cities near you.
  • Call for gang members to repent and turn to God. They are the hardest of the hard, but they are not too hard for God.
  • Say, “Revival is coming to America’s inner cities!”
  • Intercede for government structures in major cities to be transformed.

A prayer you can pray:

Oh God! Father! Come to Chicago and our nation’s other dark, demon-infested cities. Get Your Church praying like never before, Holy Spirit. Get the Saints up and praying until the darkness abates and the cities show forth the Light and Life of Christ. There are cities, even neighborhoods, in this country where darkness causes people to want to run away. Turn them completely around until people are running to them to find You, to find life and peace and refreshing and rest. That seems impossible, but nothing is impossible for You and Your praying Church. We pray that specifically for Chicago. It is a model city of darkness. Turn it into a model city of Life! We say what Jesus is saying to the people of Chicago and other dark cities, “Are you weary, carrying a heavy burden? Then come to Jesus. He is extending to you an invitation, ‘I will refresh your life, for I am your oasis. Simply join your life with mine. Learn my ways and you’ll discover that I’m gentle, humble, easy to please. You will find refreshment and rest in me. For all that I require of you will be pleasant and easy to bear.’” Wow, who can resist that invitation? Not even gang members will resist it. They will turn to Christ en masse. They will lead so many others to Jesus, because of their testimonies. Revival is coming to America’s inner cities! Residents will be transformed and governments will be transformed! In the mighty, transforming Name of Jesus! Amen.

The Lord is going to flip our country’s darkest cities into cities of light and life and peace and safety!
