Wisdom from Noah Webster
Noah Webster, who published the first American dictionary in the English language, said, “Education is useless without the Bible. The moral principles and precepts contained in the scriptures ought to form the basis of all our civil constitutions and laws. All the miseries and evils which men suffer proceed from their despising or neglecting the precepts contained in the Bible. The man who weakens or destroys the authority of that book is an accessory to all the public disorders that society is doomed to suffer.”1 Our destiny is very spiritual. Our roots are very scriptural. God is trying to turn us back toward Him.
“For precept must be upon precept, precept upon precept; line upon line, line upon line; here a little, and there a little.” (Isaiah 28:10; KJV)
Give Him 15 minutes in prayer:
- The Bible tells us that God honors His Word above His Name. Declare that His Word will be honored in America once again!
- Identificationally repent for how our modern American society has pushed out the Word of God from almost every sphere.
- Decree Noah Webster’s words, “The moral principles and precepts contained in the scriptures ought to form the basis of all our civil constitutions and laws. All the miseries and evils which men suffer proceed from their despising or neglecting the precepts contained in the Bible. The man who weakens or destroys the authority of that book is an accessory to all the public disorders that society is doomed to suffer.”
- Intercede for our current legislators to know this truth and follow it.
- Find scriptures you can decree over the spheres of society – family, the Church, government, business, education, arts and entertainment, and the media. Make these daily declarations through the end of the month.
A prayer you can pray:
Father, it is amazing that You honor Your Word above Your Name. We ought to do the same, but we are so dismissive of the Bible’s wise words in our current modern society. Forgive us. We’ve removed Your Word and its guidance in full or in part from our schools, our government, and the media, in particular. It’s as if we are saying that we do not need You! We declare the words of one of our founders, Noah Webster, “The moral principles and precepts contained in the scriptures ought to form the basis of all our civil constitutions and laws. All the miseries and evils which men suffer proceed from their despising or neglecting the precepts contained in the Bible. The man who weakens or destroys the authority of that book is an accessory to all the public disorders that society is doomed to suffer.” We, Your Ekklesia, say today that we desperately need Your Word as our guide in every sphere of society! Give us Bible verses as the sword of the Lord to effect change in these spheres. Remind us to decree them daily for the rest of May. In Jesus’ name, amen.
Today’s decree:
Our nation’s government must be built on the principles in the Word of God if it is to continue!
