Praying and Voting
We have a midterm election coming up on Tuesday, November 6, 2018. Why am I mentioning this so soon? Well, it has been said that elections can be won or lost at the point of a primary election. A primary election is held first to determine who will represent a specific party during the General Election. In many states we are in the season of primary elections. Every four years, we vote on a president. The election in the middle of presidential elections typically has a very low voter turnout. This is that “off year”. The election in 2016 was swayed to the conservative side, largely over religious freedom and morality issues. Christians came to the polls because it was a year to elect a president. However, as Christians, we can’t just come out for a presidential election. Congress makes the laws and all of the House of Representatives and ⅓ of the U.S. Senators are up for re-election every two years. Want to make a difference? Get out and vote.
“Learn to do what is right! Promote justice! Give the oppressed reason to celebrate! Take up the cause of the orphan! Defend the rights of the widow!” (Isaiah 1:17; NET)
Give Him 15 minutes in prayer:
- Voting is one important thing Christians can do to impact the United States. Here is a place to find when your state’s primary elections will be held. Go to your Secretary of State’s or County Clerk’s websites under “Elections Division” and you should find where you can vote. Every state has different voter registration requirements. Find them here.
- Pray for the upcoming elections in your state and for the United States midterm elections. Ask God for your state to choose righteous candidates that will write righteous laws.
- Intercede for the Body of Christ to understand the importance of voting in every single election they are eligible to vote in, to register and to get to the polls during every election, local (civic), state, national primaries, run-off elections, and national general elections.
- Declare the Kingdom of God will be expanded in part through the voting booth.
A prayer you can pray:
God, I believe it is my right and privilege to be able to make my voice heard nationally through the voting process. The information is out there. Give me a desire to do what I can to make a difference in America through the voting box. Let more and more God-fearing men and women run for office. Stir Christians to register to vote and understand the importance of going and voting whenever there is an election opportunity—from school board elections, local and state elections, to primaries, run-offs and national general elections. We need to get out there and vote! I know You can change our society if all of Your people were moved to go vote! Thank you, Jesus. Amen.
Today’s decree:
I will pray and I will vote!
