The Supreme Court

On this day in 1790, the Supreme Court of the United States held its very first session. The Court was meant to test laws and actions of the Executive and Legislative branches to the Constitution, mediate conflicts between the states, determine property disputes, review matters affecting ambassadors, determine if treason was committed, and serve as the final appellate court in the nation. Their power was limited and the days they sat in judgement were so short that they did not have a permanent meeting place until 1935, when the current Supreme Court building was completed. Today, they make determinations so significant that our entire society has shifted on the decision of five men and women.

“If there is a dispute between men and they go to court, and the judges decide their case, and they justify the righteous and condemn the wicked. (Deuteronomy 25:1; NASB)

Give Him 15 minutes in prayer:

  • Pray for our nine Supreme Court Justices. You can find them here.
  • Intercede for these men and women to make Constitutional decisions, not political ones.
  • Ask God to raise up God-fearing men and women now who will be ready if another opportunity for a Supreme Court appointment comes up.
  • Pray for supernatural wisdom from above to rest on these nine men and women who are critical to the future of America. Ask God to grant them unity in their decision-making, so as to shock the nation into seeing God’s hand in our nation’s affairs. Do you have faith for this?

A prayer you can pray:

Lord, we pray for the nine sitting Supreme Court Justices. They have made so many decisions according to their political bent, instead of determining constitutionality. It’s frustrating to watch. We don’t want their opinions, Lord. We want our Constitution to work. We don’t know who You are lining up for this important position in the future, but we ask that they be men and women of outstanding character, knowledgeable in the law and Constitution, and living in the fear of the Lord. May Your supernatural wisdom rest on the current Justices. Grant them supernatural unity, as well, until the world is shocked that they are judging with righteous judgement, all together. Who could have imagined it? In the name of Jesus, amen.

Today’s decree:

I decree that the Supreme Court Justices would only make righteous and just Constitutional decisions.
