Worldly Counselors vs. God
The first few verses of Psalms 2 describes those who hate God and take counsel together, devising plans to contend against Him and His people. These counselors think they’ve overthrown God’s rule and conquered His people and, in their arrogance, openly decree this. Notwithstanding, Psalm 2 describes several terrifying things God does in response. First, He laughs a mocking laugh of derision toward them. Then, He asserts that His Son will rule the earth. Lastly, God takes His rod and begins to break and shatter kingdoms in order to reestablish His reign in the earth. The good news is clearly laid out here—in the end, we win!
“Why do the nations conspire and the peoples plot in vain? The kings of the earth rise up and the rulers band together against the Lord and against his anointed, saying, ‘Let us break their chains and throw off their shackles.’ The One enthroned in heaven laughs; the Lord scoffs at them. He rebukes them in his anger and terrifies them in his wrath, saying, ‘I have installed my king on Zion, my holy mountain.’ I will proclaim the Lord’s decree: He said to me, ‘You are my son; today I have become your father. Ask me, and I will make the nations your inheritance, the ends of the earth your possession. You will break them with a rod of iron; you will dash them to pieces like pottery.’ Therefore, you kings, be wise; be warned, you rulers of the earth. Serve the Lord with fear and celebrate his rule with trembling.” (Psalm 2: 1-11; NIV)
Give Him 15 minutes in prayer:
- Read Psalm 2:1-11 out loud as a declaration. Direct this at those who think there is no God and that Christians should be silenced.
- Intercede for those earthly leaders who are in danger of being forever in eternity without God. Seriously intercede for them that they may be saved.
- Ask God to silence the ungodly leaders and, instead, give His people influence, favor and an overcoming voice.
- Pray that N. Korea would be shattered by the mercy of God and its people released from that dictatorship, so they might be free to choose Christ.
A prayer you can pray:
(Read Psalm 2:1-11 out loud as a declaration.) Lord, there are so many leaders in America that mock You. There are so many that think You do not exist and so they feel free to attack Your standards and Your people. They use the governmental vehicles at every level, but especially the national legislative and judicial systems. Correct this, Father. I whole-heartedly intercede for those ungodly counselors who are on the attack. Forgive them, because they really do not understand that they are railing against a living God! You are not moved by their words or actions. You have a plan to break their plans to pieces and to exalt Your people instead. Break North Korea’s government apart, Jesus, and set the captives free! Amen.
Today’s decree:
I decree that the Father has made the nations Christ’s inheritance, and the ends of the earth His possession, including this nation. We are watching His enforcement of this.
