We Set Our Gaze on Our King

“When things become chaotic and begin to turn to turmoil around us, God is the Rock that never quakes and the One we can look upon to save us. He is the One we can look to and say, ‘Jesus, only Jesus, the Rock on which we stand. The One we can fix our eyes on in any situation, in any moment of upheaval.’ It doesn’t matter what is happening in our lives or in our nation or in the nations of this world. We can always find Jesus to fix our eyes upon and say, ‘What are You saying? Where are You going? What are You doing?’” (Hannah Sheets)1

“Therefore, since we have so great a cloud of witnesses surrounding us, let us also lay aside every encumbrance and the sin which so easily entangles us, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us, fixing our eyes on Jesus, the author and perfecter of faith, who for the joy set before Him endured the cross, despising the shame, and has sat down at the right hand of the throne of God.” (Hebrews 12:1-2; NASB)

Give Him 15 minutes in prayer:

  • Pray Hebrews 12:1-2.
  • Do what it says and what Hannah said and fix your eyes on Jesus.
  • Now ask those three questions above.
  • Tell the Lord how you know you can trust Him.
  • Name current situations in your life and in the nation that would be challenging to face if you did not know He was more concerned than you are about them.

A prayer you can pray:

Lord if we look upon You and if we walk with You, we will not miss a step. We will not lose heart. Strengthen the weary. Let us walk with You and keep our eyes fixed on You. Let us not look to the left or to the right. You can turn our lives any way You want. You can turn the lives of our leaders like a watercourse. We look to You and trust You. Nothing moves You. Nothing shakes You! You are immovable, all powerful, and we can set our gaze upon You, knowing You will work all things together for good for us and fro America. Thank you, Jesus! Amen.

Today’s decree:

I decree that if I fix my eyes on Jesus, I will find great strength to stand against the challenges that face me and I will have faith to pray for America.
