Bold Prayers in the Halls of Congress
When Rep. Steve Scalise was shot, a Congressman stood on the floor of the Congress and prayed in the name of Jesus. This was the first time in my lifetime that I can remember this happening. Sometimes it takes a crisis to turn our hearts toward God. Even so, we are asking the Lord for mercy, not judgement or crisis. We are asking Him for more bold leaders who will stand and pray – those that know biblically that the only way our prayers are heard is when they are prayed in the name of Jesus. There’s no other Name by which we can get to God, no other blood, no other salvation, but through Him. Some will be bold enough to stand and say, “I’m asking this in the name of Jesus.”
“This is my command—be strong and courageous! Do not be afraid or discouraged. For the Lord your God is with you wherever you go.” (Joshua 1:9; NLT)
Give Him 15 minutes in prayer:
- Intercede for your state Senators and your local Representative. See if you can find out if they are a Believer.
- If they know the Lord, decree Joshua 1:9 over them. Pray that they will open their mouths and pray in the halls of Congress.
- If they do not know the Lord, pray for their salvation, so they can join the others in intercession.
- Decree that the political spirit that has fallen will be crushed completely by the actions of the Church in Congress.
A prayer you can pray:
Father, we ask for those in Congress that know You to not just to pray on the floors of Congress in a time of crisis, but when they walk the halls, and when they sit in their offices, and when they are in committee meetings. There are many leaders in Congress now who know You. They are whispering prayers. They are releasing the power of the name of Jesus all through the corridors of the legislative branch. Jesus grant our Senators and Representatives the grace to be bold and open with their faith. May they crush the political spirit under their feet! Amen.
Today’s decree:
We decree that the Ekklesia will be strong and courageous, neither afraid nor discouraged, walking in the pleasure of the Lord. We decree that they will completely crush the political spirit in the legislative branch of our government!
