Reformation Day

Some of you are participating in Halloween today, but did you know it is Reformation Day? This is the day that Martin Luther nailed his 95 theses to the door of All Saints Church in Wittenberg, Germany, in 1517 – almost 500 years ago today—and the Protestant reformation began. Now, that’s something to celebrate! While certainly long before the United States of America was in existence, it began the battle for religious freedom that prompted many to come to America’s shores—escaping religious oppression. That freedom of religion is a very precious and foundational right to Americans and it is being threatened more every day.

“Now the Lord is the Spirit and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is freedom.” (2 Corinthians 3:17; NIV)

“So if the Son sets you free, you will be free indeed.” (John 8:36; NIV)

Give Him 15 minutes in prayer:

  • Thank the Lord that the Constitution of the United States guarantees the free exercise of religion in America.
  • Repent on behalf of government leaders at the federal and state levels who are attempting to restrict religious freedom in America. Ask the Lord to forgive us as a nation for again rejecting Him and attempting to remove Him from U.S. society.
  • Cry out to God for His presence and to help us know how to pray and what to do to maintain our freedom of religion in this nation.

A prayer you can pray:

Father, we thank you that America’s establishment document, the Constitution of the United States of America, guarantees us the freedom to worship You without government intrusion. Lord, there are government leaders who desire to restrict our freedom of worship to the four walls of the church and to fully remove You from the rest of society. Forgive us as a nation for this mindset. We look to You and You alone to reverse this trend and secure our ability to worship You anywhere we want, any time we want and in any way that is pleasing to You! Show us how to pray and what to do to maintain and increase our freedom of worship in America. In Jesus’ Name, amen.

Today’s decree:

We will freely worship the Lord everywhere, all the time and in every situation across this nation!
