Gather the People
There are times in the scriptures where praying and doing what is right on an individual basis is simply not enough. On occasion, the Lord said, “Gather the people to me.” Some of those occasions were to listen to His instructions, such as at Mount Sinai, other times it was to fast and pray on behalf of the nation. On one such occasion in the book of Joel, the situation was so desperate that God said, “I want everyone to participate—the moms and dads, the children, even the newly married.” Joel’s call to prayer trumped even the honeymoon. America has come to such a desperate time. We must come together, set ourselves apart and give ourselves to the task of saving a nation through prayer.1
“Gather the people, consecrate the assembly; bring together the elders, gather the children, those nursing at the breast. Let the bridegroom leave his room and the bride her chamber. Let the priests, who minister before the Lord, weep between the portico and the altar. Let them say, “Spare your people, Lord. Do not make your inheritance an object of scorn, a byword among the nations. Why should they say among the peoples, ‘Where is their God?’” (Joel 2:16-17; NIV)
Give Him 15 minutes in prayer:
- This is a time to think corporately in intercession for the nation. Intercede and ask God to call the Body of Christ to prayer for this nation.
- Pray for Believers across all denominations, races and generations to gather together more and more in concerted intercession for our cities and country.
- Ask the Lord for a season to fast and pray with others nationally.
- Check out national prayer movements, such as the “Appeal to Heaven” movement and “As One – A National Appeal to Heaven.” Sign up and join in!
A prayer you can pray:
Father, this is a time for the Body of Christ to come together as You have called Your people to in desperate seasons in the past in order to fast and pray for national awakening and revival. We thank you that many Believers are beginning to be awakened to the state of the nation and to break free of their apathy to intercede like never before. Bring us together, Lord, across denominational, racial and generational lines. We must be able to put aside our differences, no matter how significant, to show the world what a united Church really looks like, as well as to please You! Lord, hear our corporate prayers for America! Bring us together as One in You! In Jesus’ name, amen.
Today’s decree:
The Church is being called together as One to appeal to heaven for the turning of our nation back to God!
