America – Begun in Earnest Prayer
As the nation was birthed and our Constitution being considered, chaos, strife and argument ensued. Benjamin Franklin stepped in and said, “I have lived, Sir, a long time and the longer I live, the more convincing proofs I see of this truth – that God governs in the affairs of men. I therefore beg…that henceforth prayers imploring the assistance of Heaven…be held…every morning before we proceed to business.” (1)
“Unless the Lord builds the house, they labor in vain who build it; unless the Lord guards the city, the watchman keeps awake in vain.” (Psalms 127:1; New American Standard Bible)
Give Him 15 minutes in prayer:
- Read Psalms 127:1 back to the Lord. Tell Him how desperately we need Him in our lives, our family’s life and in the governmental affairs of our nation.
- Thank Him for the governmental leaders of the past that acknowledged their need of His involvement in their governing.
- Declare that we need Him more today than ever and that we must have His involvement in our government once again.
A prayer you can pray:
Dear Lord, thank you that the founders of our nation acknowledged their need of You in governing our fledgling country. Thank you that they humbled themselves in prayer and asked for your divine guidance. They knew they could do not do this without You, Lord. Please speak to our government leaders today and show them how much they need your involvement in leading this nation. Show me how to pray regularly for them to hear You and be led by You, Lord. Amen.
Today’s decree:
We decree that the leaders of our government will see their great need of You, Lord, and will seek Your wisdom and knowledge in our nation’s affairs.
