A Lesson From the Brownsville Revival

Many of you are familiar with the Brownsville Revival, which happened under John Kilpatrick near Pensacola, Florida, in 1995. John had been crying out for revival, but he had no idea it was about to break out. The Sunday it broke out, he was so tired and frustrated that he had asked Steve Hill to preach for him that day. He just didn’t want to do it. It happened to be Father’s Day. Steve had just been touched by the move of God that had been taking place in England. So, at the end of his message, he said, “Anybody who wants this, just come up here and get it.” About 500 people came forward to get prayed for and it made John irritated. It was Father’s Day and, like everybody else, he wanted to go eat lunch.

Thinking like a typical pastor, he thought, “Great, Steve. Now we’re messing with the nursery workers and the classrooms. This is not the day to have two hours of prayer at the altars.”  In his frustrated and irritated state, the Lord slammed John to the floor while He ministered to everybody else. John didn’t get off the floor until 6 P.M.

I’m telling you this for a reason, and you need to listen to me. We are moving into a season where those kinds of things are going to start happening. He is about to interrupt some of your schedules and some of your plans. He’s going to rip you right out of your comfort zone and move you into a place that’s going to stretch you big time. You’re just going to need to put the calendar away. Your Daytimer’s going to be worthless for a while. This is a good thing, but it’s going to stretch us. Some  of you think you’re ready for this and some of you are not ready at all for what God’s about to do.

“Then Hezekiah and all the people rejoiced over what God had prepared for the people, because the thing came about suddenly.” (2 Chronicles 29:36; NIV)

Give Him 15 minutes in prayer:

  • Acknowledge that the Lord is about to show up in a season of suddenlies.
  • Ask the Lord to make you ready for the suddenly season of the Lord.
  • Get ready to tuck in close to Him. Make yourself as close as you can be to His heartbeat, His Presence.
  • Intercede for the Body of Christ. Prophesy, “Make yourself ready, Church! God is about to suddenly come upon us, even as He did on the Day of Pentecost! Don’t be caught unaware like the ten virgins with no oil in their lamps.”
  • Say, “God is coming to fan the flames of Awakening in the land. He will expose darkness from the individual life to His congregations to those sitting in government office buildings in Washington, D.C.”
  • Together with the Spirit and the Bride, say, “Come, Lord Jesus. Come.”

A prayer you can pray:

Lord, we do not want to be caught unaware when You suddenly show up! We are not just talking about in our church services. You are about to move in unprecedented measure in the earth! You are going to BE God! You aren’t going to wait for permission. In fact, You are just going to sideline anyone who tries to get in Your way. Just like you did with John Kilpatrick, You are going to lay them out and keep on going. Well, we want to be positioned to ride this move of the Spirit like a surfer rides a wave. We want to watch and pray like the 10 virgins with our lamps filled with oil, waiting through the night. Show us how to get ready! We will warn others, “God is coming!” We will intercede for the Body of Christ that is unaware of this season that has come upon us. We will pray that they are ready when the time comes. We are expectant over the shifts that will occur across the land and even in our government. “God it coming!” God is coming and no-one can stop Him. He is our Savior, Deliverer, Redeemer, and Lord. He will reign as God over America, even if almost all of America has decided they don’t want Him or need Him. They are about to see that they really do. Come, Lord Jesus. Come. Do not delay! Amen.

Today’s decree:

“We will watch for the suddenlies of God!  Suddenly Awakening! Suddenly breakthrough! Sudden shifts! Suddenlies in  government!
