The Only Ones Who Dream Are God and His Kids

We need to keep our focus on the big picture. We can’t get tunnel vision in this hour. So, I am going to talk to you about God’s “big picture”. We’re going to talk about God’s dream. Our nation came from some people who got together at the foundation of our nation and dreamed about what could be. We have defiled that dream. We’ve gotten together and turned God’s dream for us into a materialistic American Dream. God has been working to try to restore to us His dream for this nation, not just the restoration of a material dream.

So, let’s go back to Genesis for a minute. The Hebrew word for “create” and the word for “dream” have the same Hebrew root. Yatsar, yetser. The word “yetser” means to dream or imagine. It is a hidden desire tucked in the heart of someone. It’s an unfulfilled desire for the future. “Yatsar” is “create”.  If you are like me, then you will find it incredibly interesting that God put inside the concept of dreaming, the power of creating. Everything you see around you, everything you see on the planet, started with a dream. Even something as small as a toothpick started as a dream someone had to solve a problem.

God has put something of His nature in human beings. He might have said something to Adam like, “Adam, I’m going to reveal to you the secrets of the universe. All you see around you now is dirt, animals, plants. But, there are skyscrapers in the materials there. The ability to fly is hidden in My invisible laws. Many other things are hidden, but you will search them out. I have created you in My image and likeness. You’re going to be more than angels. You’re going to be My family. I want people I can dream with, because angels don’t dream. Angels just obey. Animals don’t dream. They make their way through life by instinct. The only ones who dream are Me and My kids.”

“Then the Lord God planted a garden in Eden in the east, and there he placed the man he had made. The Lord God made all sorts of trees grow up from the ground—trees that were beautiful and that produced delicious fruit… A river flowed from the land of Eden, watering the garden and then dividing into four branches. The first branch, called the Pishon, flowed around the entire land of Havilah, where gold is found. The gold of that land is exceptionally pure; aromatic resin and onyx stone are also found there… The Lord God placed the man in the Garden of Eden to tend and watch over it.” (Genesis 2:8-9a, 10-12 and 15; NLT)

Give Him 15 minutes in prayer:

  • Let’s ponder some things today. Think about the God-connection between the Hebrew words yetser, to dream, and yatsar, to create.
  • Look closely at the excerpt from Genesis 2 above. Have you noticed before that God mentions the trees growing from the ground and their fruit? Have you noticed His comments on the raw materials in the land where the rivers flow? Think about why God mentions that.
  • Have you ever thought about the fact that only God and His kids dream and create?
  • What are some of the things you know God dreams about?
  • What does “family” look like to God?
  • What does the nation which honors the Lord look like?
  • Intercede for this nation in light of the revelation He has given you.

A prayer you can pray:

God, surely Your thoughts are higher than ours and Your ways are very different than ours. Our thoughts must become like Yours and Your ways must be embraced by us, if we are to advance Your Kingdom in this nation. This devotional today is very thought-provoking. That You have a dream and You are fulfilling it, we see in part. The fact that Your dream is so full, so complete, with everything needed to expand Your Kingdom in the earth realm is something far beyond what we were thinking. It’s so much more than salvation. It’s so much more than morality. It’s not something new, but something ancient. It began before the beginning. We don’t know where all of this will take us, as a people or as a nation, but we want to be a part of Your unfolding plan. We want to create within our sphere of influence. We want to design and build the buildings, prepare the food, create the course, write the books and the laws. We want to explore the heavens and the depths of the sea looking for the truths You have hidden and desire us to search out. We want to unfold the mysteries of Your Word and make You known by the lost. We want to exemplify “family” to a world that really has trouble with the concept more and more all the time. We want America to fulfill Your dream for establishing it. Give us Your dreams and the creative power to bring Your Kingdom into this nation and into this world, in Jesus’ name. Amen.

Today’s decree:

The people of God will dream with Him and create His family!
