When Courage is in the Foundation

As the delegates debated the Declaration in Philadelphia, Washington’s army watched from Manhattan as a massive British invading fleet loomed dangerously across New York harbor. The British had come to crush the revolution in its infancy. Washington’s message to his troops laid bare the stakes.  He wrote: ‘The fate of unborn millions will now depend, under God, on the courage and conduct of this army…We have, therefore, to resolve to conquer or die.’

“Days later, General Washington ordered the Declaration read aloud to the troops. The assembled soldiers just joined an excited crowd running down Broadway. They toppled a statue of King George and melted it into bullets for battle. The faraway King would soon learn a timeless lesson about the people of this majestic land: Americans love our freedom and no one will ever take it away from us.

“That same American spirit that emboldened our founders has kept us strong throughout our history. To this day, that spirit runs through the veins of every American patriot. It lives on in each and every one of you here today. It is the spirit of daring and defiance, excellence and adventure, courage and confidence, loyalty and love that built this country into the most exceptional nation in the history of the world, and our nation is stronger today than it ever was before.” (President Donald J. Trump; Salute to America)

“Be strong and courageous. Do not fear or be in dread of them, for it is the Lord your God who goes with you. He will not leave you or forsake you.” (Deuteronomy 31:6; ESV)

Give Him 15 minutes in prayer:

  • Major change requires great faith, courage and boldness. Ask God to grace His patriots of today with great courage.
  • Courage carries change through to completion. Ask God to fill the Church with supernatural courage, and grace them to lead and inspire others to finish the race.
  • Courage must partner with unity to effect societal change. “And five of you shall chase one hundred, and one hundred of you shall put ten thousands to flight.” (Leviticus 26:8a; JUB) Intercede for greater unity in the Body of Christ. Pray for an understanding that this is not just about salvation, but about the routing of demonic forces over land and nations.
  • Press in for the courage you need to face the battles in your life without doubt or unbelief.

A prayer you can pray:

Lord, we honor those amazing men and women who paid such a cost for the establishment of the United States of America. It was a nation founded to honor God above any earthly King or ruler. Those establishing it had to have great courage; a courage they attributed as coming from You. They knew they couldn’t stop halfway through, or any part of the way through. They had to keep fighting once they started, no matter the cost, until the enemy was entirely routed and surrendered. They had the courage to do this because they were convinced it was Your Will. They counted the cost and knew it would be great, but if You were with them, they knew they would ultimately win. They had to work together. They knew that anything less than total unity could not get the job done. Any division in the ranks would mean the whole thing could fall apart. Where there is unity, You give us supernatural authority, blessing, favor, and results. God, make the Church one, even as You are one. Move us from choosing political platforms to choosing Biblical platforms. And, wherever we are dealing with doubt and unbelief, forgive us! We can’t win battles when we are not sure You will come through for us. We ask these things in Jesus’ mighty Name. Amen.

Today’s decree:

God’s Church will be strong and courageous and not stop interceding until we solidify a future of America that honors God!
