The 2019 State of the Union Address
We all know it was quite an ordeal getting to the State of the Union Address moment Tuesday night. Over the next few days we are going to break down some of the key points for the purposes of intercession for this nation.
“In the 20th century, America saved freedom, transformed science, redefined the middle class, and, when you get down to it, there’s nothing anywhere in the world that can compete with America. Now we must step boldly and bravely into the next chapter of this great American adventure, and we must create a new standard of living for the 21st century. An amazing quality of life for all of our citizens is within reach. We can make our communities safer, our families stronger, our culture richer, our faith deeper, and our middle class bigger and more prosperous than ever before. But we must reject the politics of revenge, resistance, and retribution, and embrace the boundless potential of cooperation, compromise, and the common good. Together, we can break decades of political stalemate. We can bridge old divisions, heal old wounds, build new coalitions, forge new solutions, and unlock the extraordinary promise of America’s future. The decision is ours to make. We must choose between greatness or gridlock, results or resistance, vision or vengeance, incredible progress or pointless destruction. Tonight, I ask you to choose greatness.”
“Do not be deceived: God is not mocked, for whatever one sows, that will he also reap. For the one who sows to his own flesh will from the flesh reap corruption, but the one who sows to the Spirit will from the Spirit reap eternal life.” (Galatians 6:7-8; ESV)
Give Him 15 minutes in prayer:
- Thank God for this amazing nation He birthed, called the United States of America.
- The Lord gave us freedom to choose. He desires that we choose a path of life, individually and nationally. Pray for our governmental leaders to choose life.
- Intercede for our governing leaders to work together and make decisions that keep our citizens safe.
- Ask God to provide solutions to prosper us as a nation, and give individuals maximum opportunities to be everything He has created them to be.
- Pray specifically for your Senators and Representatives so that the “extraordinary promise of America’s future” can be unlocked. You can find them here and here.
A prayer you can pray:
Father, we bring our wonderful nation before You today. We are a nation of people from many backgrounds and nations. We are that great melting pot You designed us to be. We desire the foundation of honoring Jesus Christ to be the foundation we are built on. We are increasingly sowing a death culture into our soil. Forgive us and hear Your Church repent, for we choose Life and that abundantly for our states and for this nation. Give us as many legislators as possible, who will choose life. Let them choose to protect our citizens and provide the safety and security that all citizens deserve. Help them come up with wonderful ideas to prosper America and make an environment where all can choose to prosper themselves, as well. We have such amazing choices and opportunities in America to become whatever we want to be. As our president said, our legislators must make choices to “bridge old divisions, heal old wounds, build new coalitions, forge new solutions, and unlock the extraordinary promise of America’s future.” They must “choose between greatness or gridlock, results or resistance, vision or vengeance, incredible progress or pointless destruction.” Help us, Jesus. Amen.
