Let the Congregation Make a Petition

Can you imagine congregants asking their pastors the following questions? Pastor, why don’t we pray for the government more? Can we pray for the President today? Could we intercede for life today? Pastor, can we pray for our city council members? It could get pretty uncomfortable for leaders if we start doing that. Congregants are going to start realizing, “We don’t pray for these things. Why don’t we do this?” I’ve been asking the Lord, “What do we need to do for this shift to take place?” I’ve been asking the Lord to give favor to some who have a broader voice than I have, who could speak to many streams, who could suddenly tap into this. We need those to rise up who can start writing and teaching and crossing denominational streams. We need Baptists and Assembly of God leaders, and many others with influence.

“Never speak harshly to an older man, but appeal to him respectfully as you would to your own father. Talk to younger men as you would to your own brothers.” (1 Timothy 5:1; NLT)

Give Him 15 minutes in prayer:

  • With humility, pray for your pastors and those in authority over you that they will have a heart to pray for government and governmental leaders.
  • Ask the Lord for grace and favor to discuss this in a respectful manner with your senior leader. Ask them the questions above or similar ones.
  • Pray for leaders to tap into this who have influence across denominational streams. Intercede for them to start speaking and writing on this topic, so pastors, leaders, and congregants can be on the same page.

A prayer you can pray:

Father, stir in me a heart to pray for government and government leaders. Help me to have revelation in this realm of prayer the Church so often ignores. With some of us on both sides of the political aisle, we are afraid to offend one another, but Your Word is the place we can keep going back to for our standard and direction. Stir up the congregants to speak to pastors about this. Stir up the pastors to fearlessly ask congregants to pray for government and government leaders. Stir up national-level leaders to speak and write on this topic with an anointing to cross denominational barriers. Get Your Church in unity in this area, Lord. It may matter for the harvest. It certainly matters for the peace we desire to live in and to raise our families in. In Jesus’ name, we ask. Amen.

Today’s decree:

God is placing favor on congregants and leaders in the Body of Christ to stir prayer for government in this nation!
