Give Him 15 is joining a 40-day national call to prayer before the 2018 Midterm Elections. Here is today’s Focus:
Day 36 – Compassion That Compels Our Intercession
“Each of you should look not only to your own interests, but also to the interests of others. Your attitude should be the same as that of Christ Jesus.” (Philippians 2:4-5; BSB)
We were never created to live as snarling wolves, destroying others in our path. We were created in the image of the God of the universe who gave His only begotten Son even for those who would despise and reject Him.
Considering the needs and interests of others before ourselves does not come naturally. This attitude is only birthed through prayer and a Spirit-empowered, unconditional love of Christ, developed through a consistent relationship with Him.
Paul addressed this issue when writing to the church in Galatia. These words would also apply to political parties, governmental leaders, media, and anyone who struggles with showing compassion and kindness toward others:
The entire Law is fulfilled in a single decree: “Love your neighbor as yourself.” But if you keep on biting and devouring each other, watch out, or you will be consumed by each other. So I say, walk by the Spirit, and you will not gratify the desires of the flesh . . . (Galatians 5:14–16 BSB)
With a conviction based upon the Word of God, let us unite in prayer together.
Points for Prayer:
Sovereign God, break the cycles of resentment, revenge, and racism so that relationships are restored in homes/families, churches, communities, and the nation as a whole. (Matthew 6:9–14)
Christ the Anointed One, release a reconciling power in the midst of national conflict, revealing God’s desire to make us one and use His people to be agents of healing and change, social justice and peace. (2 Corinthians 5:17–19)
Holy Spirit, enable us to break patterns of poverty in our communities, fulfilling Christ’s call to act with compassion and persistence to eradicate deficiency and disease through meeting the basic needs of food, shelter, and health care, for the disenfranchised, whether immigrant, refugee, or citizen. (Matthew 25:34–40)
Praise God for open doors to be His hands extended beyond the prayer closet or church walls; then move forward with action that puts feet to our faith. (James 2:14–17)
