Flag Day!

“More than two centuries ago, on June 14, 1777, the Second Continental Congress formally adopted the Stars and Stripes as the official flag of our new Republic.  Through the many triumphs and trials of our Nation, our flag has reflected our heritage of liberty and embodied the American virtues of bravery, justice, and loyalty.  Each year, we celebrate Flag Day and National Flag Week to honor our timeless national emblem. Today, we celebrate the ideals of our country’s founding, which are represented so proudly by the broad stripes and bright stars — that all men are created equal and endowed by their Creator with unalienable rights, including life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness.  May we never forget the tremendous sacrifices required to secure and maintain our freedom. Let us proudly stand and remember our founding principles and our country’s ever continuing march to achieve a more perfect Union. As we raise our flag, let us resolve always to cherish it with reverence and eternal gratitude so that the red, white, and blue may forever wave from sea to shining sea.” (President Donald J. Trump)1

Go through, go through the gates, Clear the way for the people; Build up, build up the highway, Remove the stones, lift up a standard over the peoples.” (Isaiah 62:10);ESV)

Give Him 15 minutes in prayer:

  • Flags are symbols of a nation’s freedoms and ideals. Thank the Lord for our nation’s God-given principles upon which we were founded.
  • Pray that we would continue to pursue our primary ideals – that all men are created equal and endowed by their Creator with unalienable rights, including life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness.
  • Let us remember today the many in uniform who guard our nation under this flag and help to maintain our freedom.
  • Take a minute to reflect on the many triumphs and trials our flag has flown over in our nation’s history. Intercede, repent, and/or rejoice over each one God brings to mind.

A prayer you can pray:

Lord, I thank you for the flag of the United States of America. What a wonderful symbol of our nation’s founding principles of honoring You, of unity, and of justice for all! May we ever pray that this country continues to pursue our primary ideals – that all men are created equal and endowed by their Creator with unalienable rights, including life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. We remember those today who fight for our freedom, especially on foreign soil. Lord, protect and guard our men and women in uniform. Bring them home safely. Give me a history lesson and show me the times our flag flew over victories, as well as defeats. May I rejoice, repent, forgive and worship over those moments. Let me never forget the cost that keeps it flying today. In Jesus’ name. Amen.

Today’s decree:

Under the flag of America, we will remain free!
