Holy Hubert Lindsey

I remember Holy Hubert Lindsey. Most of you have never heard of him before. He was a small man who was very non-Charismatic in his delivery and personality. You would never pick him out of a crowd as a leader or someone significant. In the 1960’s, God began to break his heart for the troubled youth of America. Some were on drugs and turning to sex in the middle of the sexual revolution. Youth were disillusioned, rioting, angry over the Vietnam War and other political issues of the day. They experienced hypocrisy of church leadership and their parents. So, Dr. Lindsey went to Berkeley where it was all starting. He said, “I didn’t know what to do, so I started to walk the streets of Berkeley all night long, weeping and praying.” I said to God, ‘Would You give me these kids? Give us revival. Give us this generation back.’” He paid a great price for his persistent intercession and campus preaching, but the result was what has been determined to be the beginning of “The Jesus Movement”. It was the greatest wave of youth evangelism in the history of the world.

“Will you not revive us again, that your people may rejoice in you?” (Psalm 85:6; ESV)

Give Him 15 minutes in prayer:

  • Do you want this? Do you want revival for today’s American youth?
  • Think about today’s campus climate. Write down the issues you know face the youth today.
  • Intercede over those issues, stirring up passion as you pray.
  • Repeat after Holy Hubert Lindsey, “Would You give me these kids? Give us revival. Give us this generation back!”
  • Go out and prayer walk or prayer drive your neighborhood schools or the schools of your city, if you are really ambitious.

A prayer you can pray:

Father, I am deeply grieved over the condition of our youth in America. I want to see them radically saved and on fire for You! I want them to know Your love and unconditional forgiveness! I long to see them in revival! The issues of the 1960s were awful. Today’s are even worse. Our society has been on a downward slide away from You for a very long time. God, hear our prayers for our children and children’s children! Give us these kids. Give us this generation back! Heal their pain and remove the effects of their rebellion. I will go out and pray at the places they are congregated and cry out for them in Jesus name. Amen.

Today’s decree:

I demand this generation of America youth back!
