The Power of History

The thought of shaping the future is powerful, but past history is also very important. Karl Marx said, “If I can steal their history, I can steal their country.” Roots are essential and powerful; foundations are critical. Before facing Goliath, David asked the question, “Is there not a cause?” Interestingly, the Hebrew word used for “cause” also means “history.” Therefore, David may have been asking his brother and fellow Israelites, “Is there not a history?” What would David have meant by such a question? Perhaps he was asking, “Don’t we have a history worth believing in and fighting for?” What about us as Christian Americans today facing the spiritual giants in our land? Do we have history on our side? “Yes!” scream the Pilgrims, our founding fathers, and early settlers. A history with God is powerful!

“And David said, ‘What have I now done? Is there not a cause?’” (1 Samuel 17:29; KJV)

Give Him 15 minutes in prayer:

  • Intercede for your fellow Believers in Christ, telling them to rise up with passion, asking in the Spirit, “Is there not a cause? Is there not a reason grounded in the history of this nation for us to spiritually fight for this nation’s future?”
  • Read the Thanksgiving story today from David Barton and WallBuilders here.
  • Thank God for the perseverance of the saints who brought God’s vision to this land.
  • Agree with God’s plan for the United States and pray in those purposes – to expand the gospel into the new world and, then, out from here to the nations of the earth.

A prayer you can pray:

Father, I pray for the Church in America. Stir us to rise up together and proclaim with passion, “Is there not a cause? Is there not historical evidence showing that You are the One that established the U.S. for Your purposes?” Reading through the Thanksgiving story on WallBuilders’ site today stirs thanksgiving in my heart. The pilgrims persevered, so we can live today in such abundance. Let that abundance be used, together with our intercession, to fulfill Your dream for this land through us. The nation must be fully won and the nations’ harvest of souls awaits us. In Jesus’ Name, amen.

Today’s decree:

I decree that there is a history in America worth fighting for!
