Awakening the Power of Repentance

God wants to give us mercy instead of judgement. Just before the elections, a group of intercessors joined me on a prayer journey to the areas where our nation was birthed, including where Christians first came to the shores of America. These first Christians were bringing their hopes and dreams from the Lord to expand the Gospel into this new world. At one point on the journey, we were repenting for the sins of our nation and those of our forefathers. One of the intercessors had a vision of coins falling from the sky and into our hands while this repentance was occurring. The Lord told her we had tapped into the currency of mercy.

Since that time, we have seen the mercy of God displayed in our nation time and again. I believe the election of Donald Trump as President was an act of mercy. Our faith is not in Donald Trump or in any political party, but it is clear the election turned us onto another path and it can be a reformation path.

Repentance is the key to receiving that falling mercy, for forgiveness and mercy follow repentance. In the book of Daniel, chapter 9, we see that Daniel repented identificationally on behalf of Israel. Using his example, we can take a similar position of intercession for our nation, repenting for our national sin. As we do this, let us fully expect the mercy of God to pour out like refreshing water across America. May we receive as a nation what we do not deserve, so that God can be glorified in the land and we may be refreshed.

“Therefore repent and turn back so that your sins may be wiped out, so that times of refreshing may come from the presence of the Lord, and so that he may send the
Messiah appointed for you—that is, Jesus.” (Acts 3:19-20; NET)

Give Him 15 minutes in prayer:

  • Thank the Lord for the grace to repent. Thank Him for the forgiveness and mercy that follows.
  • Get out your Bible and use Daniel 9:4-19 as a guide to pray for the United States. Realize that you are repenting on behalf of the sins of this nation before a holy God. Let Holy Spirit lead you and do not be in a hurry.
  • Cry out to God for mercy for America!

A prayer you can pray:

Father, we thank You for the grace to repent! We get to repent, so You can reveal Your forgiveness and mercy to our nation. (Use Daniel 9:4-19 to pray for the United States. Listen carefully to the Lord, take your time, and be deeply aware that you are identificationally repenting on behalf of this nation.) Mercy, Jesus, send mercy to America!

Today’s decree:

We decree that God has sent mercy in place of judgement for America!
