Violence is Not the Way Forward

“The ultimate weakness of violence is that it is a descending spiral, begetting the very thing it seeks to destroy. Instead of diminishing evil, it multiplies it. Through violence you may murder the liar, but you cannot murder the lie, nor establish the truth. Through violence you murder the hater, but you do not murder hate. In fact, violence merely increases hate….Returning violence for violence multiples violence, adding deeper darkness to a night already devoid of stars. Darkness cannot drive out darkness; only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate; only love can do that.” (Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.)1

“But the Lord is still in his holy temple; he still rules from heaven. He closely watches everything that happens here on earth. He puts the righteous and the wicked to the test; he hates those loving violence.” (Psalm 11:4-5; TLB)

Give Him 15 minutes in prayer:

  • Since the election of President Trump, there has been a spirit of violence, both in action and in word poured out in the nation. Cry out for the downward spiral to cease!
  • Intercede between both the governmental administration and the people who were disappointed. Violence is not the answer on either side!
  • Call for the Light of God to penetrate the darkness and drive the darkness out: of the government leaders’ communication, of the media reports, of celebrities’ comments, of the people who are angry.
  • Loudly call out for a supernatural outpouring of God’s love on the nation!

A prayer you can pray:

Father, we call for the tidal wave of violent speech and actions to cease in America! It is spiraling downward and right on the verge of being out of control. As soon as one circumstance starts to wane, another pops up in its place. We need Your holy intervention, Lord. Send Your Truth and Your Light and penetrate the darkness and the hatred and the violence, wherever the source of it is. Jesus! Pour out Your Love on our nation! We need You! Amen.

Today’s decree:

The violence of words and actions will cease in this nation, as we humble ourselves and pray for the Love of God to be poured out on us and on all of those around us!
